Where's all this hate coming from? Kimbo is training hard and winning fights, he's new to MMA competition, has no grappling or kickboxing background, so why should he be put in with top guys to get killed straight away?

Training with someone really good doesn't make you really good.
So it doesn't even matter that Bas is saying really good things about Kimbo?

I never said I want Kimbo to be put in with top guys.

I just think it's regrettable when he's treated as a top guy, when in reality he's a newbie.

I don't hate Kimbo, I hate the aura that all the youtube kiddies created around him.

Bas is basically saying that Kimbo is talented and strong.

I don't care how talented and strong you are, you won't be a top MMA competitor with only a few months of training. Again, I just resent the fact that he's so exalted when in reality he isn't that great.

You're not even looking at it from a business sense. Besides maybe Frank Shamrock, he is their biggest name. So they have an OK main event, people tuning in to see Kimbo may watch the other fights so they may seen some great action. Kimbo is doing his part by training hard and not at all saying he OWNZORS MMA.

EliteXC isnt UFC, they dont have a huge fight in every weight division. Shaw is a boxing promotor, this is what he does. He will give people Kimbo because they want Kimbo. The people who make up the MMA Purist % is very very low, he could probably care less whether you tune it, but being that you are a purist, you will tune in just so you can know what excatly you are going to bitch about on these boards tomorrow

For whatever it's worth, the wikipedia states that Kimbo has been training with Bas since 2004.

To be fair, Kimbo stood toe to toe with Tank Abbott, one of the hardest hitters, ever. He didn't try to take it to the ground or work leg kicks, he stood face to face and outboxed a guy who's game is almost all boxing. Sloppy, but powerful boxing, and Kimbo KO'ed him.

Tank wasnt that good even in his prime(if he had one). Now he is just a punching bag with a famous name. Ray Mercer the same way, he is famous, he was a good boxer but he had no chance in a mma fight. It is good marketing from elite xc and the worst part of the whole thing is that it works. People start to beleive the hype.

Kimbo is fun to watch. He was fun to watch when he was fighting for suitcases of money on the internet, and he is fun to watch today.

He seems to be training hard and taking this opportunity seriously. It is not his fault that there is a big buzz around his name.
