Wow, I really liked that article. If only they mentioned this while teaching us about the Suffragettes in school.

Does that mean you'll post a picture of yourself, flipping a local cop over his squad car? :)

Yes, thanks for this. For context, it was an uncertain period, and you might find the thesis put forward by George Dangerfield in his book "The Strange Death of Liberal England" interesting. The emergence of the Independent Labour Party, the baiting of the House of Lords by the House of Commons with a Bill deliberately designed by Lloyd George to be provocative so as to be rejected and leading to a crisis in which the Commons became the pre-eminent Chamber; The Childrens Charter; the Home Rule for Ireland Bill and its crises in the island of Ireland (Curragh Mutiny - Edward Carson's illegal activities and the importation of some 30,000 German (Mauser?) rifles to the militant Protestant groupings). More.

All leading to War with the Kaiser's Germany.

And the munitions work and more by women led to a willingness to extend the Franchise to allow women the Right to Vote after the War. If Memory serves, upon Marriage, the woman's worldly goods became the property of the husband.....so perhaps Mrs Garrud's teachings came in useful in the domestic sphere???

She choreographed the fight scene for a short play called "JiuJitsu as Husband-Tamer" in which a jujitsu-trained wife defends herself against her alcoholic husband by throwing him all over the living room. The play ends with the husband swearing never to drink again.

Cheers for that. I was being somewhat glib with my tongue firmly in my cheek - sorry it didn't across.

Right, Bravo is on at the moment and Buffer has just introduced Sherk v Penn.

    Ta muchly.

I got the glib (the three question marks helped), just thought it ironic that Mrs. Garrud's teachings actually were applied to the domestic sphere, or at least that they were intended to be.
