I've never trained there, but they used to have a different site with some decent sparring vids and a fight-team with their records on it. Some had done full contact and done ok, some had just done semi-contact and forms. The tradtional kung fu bit of what they did was something called eagle-claw, which I know little about but Omega has trained in. The vids of fights (full and semi) had quite a bit of high kicking and big swinging hands that had a 'kung fu movie' feel to them, but (in the vids at least) they seemed to be able to apply in sparring.

All of their fight vids seemed to be under kickboxing-like rules (didn't see any clinching, takedown attempts or leg kicks).

Cheers maybe not what I am looking for then as "clinching, takedown attempts or leg kicks" is pretty much where I want to go. I might check them out though.

I know Tai Chi is gay, and I've learned to accept it, but 'clinching, takedown attempts and leg kicks' is what we do.

Having seen your clubs videos I've got no issues with that, though friends mocked me heavily when I mentioned it. It's why I said I was interested in your club at the throwdown. It's a bit of a problem for me to get to on a regluar basis unfortunatly.

Personnaly I think my TKD + Tai Chi will be the ultimate in Mixed Martial Arts.

Yep I found it quite hard to get close for takedowns agianst you in the streight grappling at the Oxford throwdown. Your streight arming was quite effective.

Damn. My trip to London was postponed until christmas, so I guess I'm not coming :(. On the positive side, in 6 months I'll be a lot less embarrassing, because I just can't get any worse.
Curiosity killed the cat. But damn it had a blast.

Next time it will be different. I've developed a terrible habit of massively overusing that instead of trying enough of my own takedown attempts. There are quite a few good, practical takedowns in Tai Chi that I haven't practiced enough because I worry too much about not losing in practice.

Its pretty much the same in grappling, you cant really start learning stuff untill you stop worrying about loosing and start trying stuff.

Its far too easy to "Clam up" and just keep pulling your arms into defensive positions where wile safe(ish) you have no chance to attempt anything.
