It's no coincidence, no fighter picks an opponent he thinks he'll lose against. Silva's camp has obviously seen holes in Roy's game. Back in his prime, Roy had great reflexes, speed and timing. He could get away with using his flatbush style lead hand low stance. Only young talented boxers with speed, timing and reflexes can get away with that game. When you get old, the speed gradually leaves you and Roy knows this. That's why this fight won't happen. Roy has everything to lose and nothing to gain in terms of reputation.

Why wouldn't he have a chance? Why would it last 10 rounds?

Have you considered that maybe he's trying to prove himself, or that perhaps this is just a PR ploy?

The street argument is retarded. BJJ is so much overkill for the street that its ridiculous. Unless you're the idiot that picks a fight with the high school wrestling team, barring knife or gun play, the opponent shouldn't make it past double leg + ground and pound - Osiris

Why wouldn't it last 10 rounds? Because he would KTFO'd long before that final bell...

And yes, I think it is a PR ploy personally. SIlva isn't dumb enough to actually step in that ring.

I think this would be great, but if Silva is smart and actually wants to fight Roy, he better fight some lower caliber boxers first.

The fact is that Roy Jones would likely school Silva pretty hard.

And you are sure of this?

Roy's skills have steadily deteriorated in the latter part of his career. I don't think he would fare well against a hungry Silva, especially if he uses that same stance with his lead hand hanging down by his balls... That **** is dangerous. Roy won't agree to this fight. Why bother when he can just put his name on any boxing product and rake in the dough without endangering his rep.

I think they called out Roy because he has the time to take up a challenge match. All of the current champions are too busy defending their titles to waste time on this. The Alphabet boxing leagues are so busy setting up their "mandatory" title defenses.

Roy is retired. He is also a much bigger name than Silva. If he agrees to this fight, it benefits Silva much more than it benefits Roy.

I want to see a boxing champion still in his prime to agree to do a MMA match. Even if the boxer lost, I'd still respect seeing him fight. However, I think there are alot of promoters who would try to make sure that never happens to protect their golden egg.

To me, this proves nothing. Until boxers are willing to step into an MMA arena, they shouldn't talk any **** about MMA, period. The boxing community's argument is "Come fight without 3/4ths of your game, punching only against a punching specialist, and we'll see how good you do"

That's retarded. Boxers need to face reality and look for some crossover if they want to keep their sport relevant.

To be honest, a pure boxer might be able to win a MMA fight against a lower MMA fighter just on their hand skills if they learn how to sprawl. They would have to really be serious about knocking someone out instead of boxing for 12 rounds.
