I don't know if I would call it that . He had them read a story from the old testament of the bible (before Jesus) and then gave them a metaphor to think about. They didn't have to if they didn't want to (Danzig).
It was certainly self-righteous and egotistical on Hughes' part, but saying that he "made them do Jesus Prayers" is kinda misleading. He was pretty much giving his version of the "I'm the coach, I'm here to help, it's for your own good, yatta yatta" speech. I'm sure Serra gave a similar themed pep-talk, only with less scripture and more swearing.
By the way, I'm not defending Hughes. Hughes is a douche. -

Also Sean Salmon's little Crane Kick thing didn't lose him the fight. It was the shin across his face that did it. Otherwise he wasn't doing half-bad, if you ask me. If he had managed to win, we would be talking about it like it was showboating, like something that Mayhem Miller or Krazy Horse would do.
It did look pretty dumb, but there was no way he earnestly meant for that kick to land. -
