I don't understand? point fighting punches?

The karate kid, Jeff Newton, put it on the line against crowd favorite and local hero, Joe Crilly in the ninth fight. Newton has seemed to find a way to make his karate strikes work in MMA. Using what appeared to be point fighting punches, Newton caught Crilly on the chin numerous times. Crilly to his credit didn't back down and landed a few good shots of his own. Then at 2:05 in round one, Newton catches a hunched over Crilly with a particularly brutal roundhouse kick to the jaw that sent Crilly straight into REM sleep. Crilly was out for at least three minutes. Newton is a very exciting fighter but time will tell if his unique approach to MMA can handle more capable opponents.

So......huh?
His hip twists were different or something?

The only punches that work with gloves are boxing punches, the first generation of full contact and kick boxers found that out in the 70's

Beacuse of the gloves... boxing gloves are best with boxing like punches, snap punches don't work as well with gloves, the Kinetic energy is dissipated, back fists and ridgehands for example, are bare knuckle techniques, they don't work as well with gloves and as for the reverse punch... well if you have ever done it with gloves and without, I am sure you notice a difference.
Jabs, hooks, uppercuts, straights and crosses are the most effective punches to deliver with gloves on.

And the moment you remove the gloves, boxing punches CAN become very hazardous to your hands if you don't make them more like "karate" punches.

i saw a kickboxer using back fists alot before with gloves. he won but mostly with his kicks. he seemed to use it mostly to keep the opponent away. btw, by gloves are you talking just about big type boxing gloves or all gloves including those used in nhb tournaments?
