That's precisely the position I find myself in. I'm open to the prospect of adopting a new training method, but I am not comfortable with the approach as yet.

I 've done the blood restriction thing with jump stretch bands for arthritis pain as demonstrated in the elitefts videos by jump stretch company owner Dick Hartzel. However as a Youngstown State alum who listens to Hartzel's YSU football radio color commentary I think he's been using the restriction thing a little too much on his own neck.

How long did you use the bands for, and how much of an impact did it have on your arthritis pain?

I don't use them for the shoulder pain because you need help getting the band on but I use them for the arthritis in my hands a lot and it works for a few hours assuming I'm not stressing my wrists afterwards. The pain dosen't go away but the technique Hartzel shows definately takes the edge off. I have a band on a basement support pole and have been doing them for about 8 months.

interesting. You wouldn't happen to have a link to the videos you mentioned before, would you? I'm keenly interested in seeing anything that might help me make sense of the proper application for this vascular occlusion training stuff.

LOL... So I posted a blurb about these impressive gains with almost no work on Rip's site and asked if he'd care to comment on it.

You can't make people smarter. You can expose them to information, but your responsibility stops there.

    Lol.

As for the no work thing, I should probably comment that the time I tried it, I found that it made the activity I was doing significantly more difficult. It required substantially increased effort.

Riptoe is God as far as this sort of thing goes, though, so...

I guess the rating for Occlusion Training is slightly negative slant at the moment. We've had anectodal evidence (which unfortunately can't count for much), and a study (which as far as I know has not been replicated) vs. a humorous comment from someone with more knowledge bout strength training than most of the forum combined.

More info please, if anyone has it.

oh, and JRT6, thanks man. I look forward to seeing the vids.

Also note, that the workout routine (12 reps) didn't really sound like a strength training routine, more like a bodybuilding routine.

well, on a quick biology note

Keeping the straps on would keep your muscles contracted, using up the energy faster. Cutting the blood flow would also make them work harder, using up the energy

and once you use up the energy, and hit muscle fatigue, thats when you really start to build muscle.

    HOWEVER

you are cutting off blood flow, and blood is pretty important stuff, so make sure you have a trained professional with you...
