I support caged face masks when sparring mma a professional boxer knocked the **** out of my nose and broke it.. then 3 weeks later again. Now I wear that **** all the time. Damn you Steve. I also support shin pads threw a viscous high kick once and connected with some dudes elbow on my instep not very fun. Be a real man and wear your gear so you can get beat up more often.

I'm going to have to agree with Omega on most of this. I always wear a custom mouth guard even in BJJ. I 've had my jaw slammed several ties. Groin protector, yes protecting big jim and the twins is not an option. Head gear, if someone is whaling away at me. Elbow pads, yes because I have arthritic elbows. MeDavid makes great low profile pads. Shin pads, as we speak my ankle is swelled up from catching a bad shin on shin kick. So I do my shin conditioning on the drills where I have control and protect myself with the pads when sparring.

on topic:iv trained with americans beforeand wht they seem to have in common is that they dont train very hard, they seem a bit affraid of injuries.
