It means your actually allowed to HIT the opponent. He says Light-contact but sometimes its heavy contact. Gee, you didn't know what contact sparring was?

ALL SPARRING involves contact so, saying "contact sparring "is like saying "punch boxing."

It is redundant without the designation of point light, heavy, medium, full or whatever you want to use.

I guess your right that way. It's just that the ATA seems to built a reputation of not allowing you to hit each other it seems. So I had to make that point that where I train we do HIT each other. Sorry for any misunderstanding here..

I think this gentleman's assessment is accurate. The ATA has implemented required fitness tests of all of its black belts. There are many schools with disreputable instruction in this organization and I apologize for them. "Block teaching" is a travesty; we don't do that in our school and we never will. Recently, I had the flu and went to one of my mid-terms; I failed. We release students from their contracts if they decide it's not for them. There are many myths out there and I can only hope that someday there can be enough transparency in order for the good schools to gain the respect they deserve.
