    Hell yeah! Hell no!

    Capoeira brawl.

    Watch the whole video gentlemen. Mostly it´s a regular roda with throws, but eventually some actual fights break out and the crowd has to tear the fighters away from each other.

    Very cool.

    That civilisation may not sink,
    Its great battle lost,
    Quiet the dog, tether the pony
    To a distant post;
    Our master Caesar is in the tent
    Where the maps are spread,
    His eyes fixed upon nothing,
    A hand under his head.

    Cool indeed, and a useful point of reference for those whose only experience of capoeira is the sanitized "world dance" version usually seen in the US.

    Actually that "world dance" is pretty much what I see here in Brazil as well. Hardcore rodas like the one shown in that ideo are very rare, although the Muzenza group has been doing a great work in ressurecting hardcore capoeira.

    If you guys are interested search for the words muzenza and capoeira at youtube. Although, frankly, the video I posted is probably much more violent than muzenza´s sparring stuff, those are actual brawls.

    Because capoeira is a game, a cultural ritual and a dance as much as it is a combat sport.
