Those strikes, except one of them, were to the side of the head.
They were close enough to the back, let's say rear corner, that it warranted a warning from Mazzagatti.

Seriously though, it matters very little. In the end Mir won by a fantastic KNEEEBAAAH, I enjoyed the match and showed that BJJ > Brute strength.
I've read the interview and to be honest, I'd believe the Refs own words over anything people can muster up in their imagination.
if steve mazagatti did get it wrong,i think the outcome would have been the same anyway.
i hope brock does do well in the ufc though just to shut up all the haters
