The U.S. Marshal Academy was the only one I attended that did any ground work at all in defensive tactics (this was in '98). Naturally, the time constraints of an academy setting prevents anything but an introduction to rudimentary tactics but it was still a big advance over the standing armbar drills of the '80. In any event I think the best any Academy can do is illustrate why this type of training is needed and encourage officers to pursue traing on their own time. MMA has gotten very popular and your chances of having a physical altercation with someone who has had training in takedowns and submissions has increased dramatically. Just a few weeks ago I arrested someone who competes MMA in NJ that actually trained with a current UFC fighter (fortunately he didn't fight). Thanks to the OP for posting the video, I'm going to show it to my friends.
