    Hell yeah! Hell no!
As someone that doesn't follow the UFC anymore...what is with the "not punchy back of head." I would rather get punched in the back of the head than in the face.

    For shame......

A hard blow to the back of the head can do serious damage to the neck. It can cause brain injuries of all sorts.

I don't use my brain so that would be fine.

Blame the gloves...back in the no gloves days, dipshits would break their hands by doing stupid **** like that. The more rules they make, to give the appearance of safety, the more problems come up.

The real problem is blows that hit the precise connection between spine and skull - it's a relatively vulnerable point and trauma is more likely when it is an allowed target. This is why rabbit punching is illegal in boxing.

Keep in mind, it's not a magic "will kill" spot, but rather it's a spot that's high probability for injury.

but...like I said...the more rules to make it 'short term' safe, actually make it more dangerous in the long term.

ahm, no, KP, it's not a rule for hand safety. There's a really touchy spot right at the top of the neck that you really don't want people pounding on over and over.

This is pretty much a "long term" safety issue too.

Tell you what, next time you are down visiting your brother, we can go to Johnny's house and he will let us punch him in the base of the skull.
That way you can se what kind of damage it can cause.

    :)

confusion...sorry...The gloves are for hand safety. They are what gives you the ability to stroke someone's skull without breaking your hand. I know the rule isn't for hand safety. sorry I didn't explain what I meant better.

If there weren't any gloves and you were scared of breaking your hand (which you wouldn't necessarily be), there are these pointy things half-way up your arms that you could do just as much damage with.
