The Sport Jiu Jitsu tournament scene is pretty awful. I competed in the opens for those guys back in West Virginia and there were so many wacky rules and so much floppy gear that i felt like Frankenstein trying to dance in a ballroom. By far my best techniques are low kicks and I wasn't even allowed to use then OR to throw knees. Its a strange situation there.
If you want to check out the best hard contact hybrid rules tournament check out http://www.maclassic.com/martialarts.../introduction/
Ive fought in that tournament more than a few times. Theres a bare knucle full contact ring for semi pros and a padded division for the normal guys with low kicks, knees, grappling and strikes allowed on the ground. Everything is full contact but NO head contact WHATSOEVER allowed. You can see kids as young as 6 competing under these rules.
Igor Zinoviev usually brings some of his teenagers to fight and there are some TOUGH kids. If anyone has a chance to check this out I strongly reccomend it."All warfare is based on deception." -Sun Tzu, ca. 400BC
