    MMA Tournaments for Minors

Although I'm at no level to compete yet, I was wondering; are there any organizations or organized events that cater to the under 18 crowd? Is it legal in the US (to compete for money if you're under 18?) In a few months I'd like to compete. Mainly for $$$ (Although I know the prize money isn't UFC/Pride/K-1 type money but, to a 16 year old kid, or rather, to this kid, $500-$1000 is a lot of money). Or even if there is NO prize, I'd still like to compete.

    What about Boxing/Kick boxing events?

Any links to web sites would be appreciated.

BTW, I'm in the New Jersey if that helps.

under 18? I'd say your best bet is some pissant pointsparring or MAYBE boxing, depending on the area.

Grappling and wrestling, of course, if you can find it.

Frankly, I think you should just train until you're 18 and spar a lot. And the money you'd get could probably cover a victory party at most.

I knew the chances would be slim.

    Thanks for the advice.

MMA is perceived as being dangerous, even if it is not. Nobody is gonna let kids do MMA.

Grappling isn't seen as that dangerous to everyone I ask about it, but full contact striking gets some reactions.

MMA isn't seen as a mix of grappling and striking, its seen as a brawl in a cage. Opinions change slowly, unfortunately. You'll be of age long before then probably, anyway, so just chill.

What about the North American Grappling Association?

I know they have some youth divisions.

Hit up PeeDeeShaolin (If he is still around) for more info- it seems he does alot with them and I believe he lives in New England.

Try this site. They have submission grappling and point sparring tournaments regularly, and they go as young as 8 years old:

Here are a few links with some pictures from previous events:
