The best side kick I've seen so far is Marvin Perry's. Call me bias, but it's impressive as hell to watch.

The way he teaches it is from a square (shoulders forward) stance similar to Muay Thai. From here the kicker picks up his lead leg and pivots his support leg so that he is facing to the side while bringing the lead knee up to the chest. From here the kicker shoots his lead leg out to complete the side kick. If the kicker needs to advance forward he shouldn't shuffle, but should slide forward on the kick.

Here's some fight clips demonstrating what I'm talking about (sorry, couldn't embed):

I hate to sound like I'm part of the Marvin Perry advertising firm, but the topic is side kicks and I've yet to see better.

I was waiting for the Subway sandwich pitch at the end of the first video. Isn't that Jarod teaching the sidekick?

He seems to be focused on the very basic side kick. A shuffle added in is a more advanced kick for most.

allrighty, op video is no1 the chinese dudes vid no2.

video no1 is way too 'technical' in my experience and you need a lot of space for your leg to fit in especially when you have long limbs (duh).
Too slick, nice on paper, not so nice for an alive situation.

video no2 looks more like how i would do it except i wouldnt throw that side kick to the chest unless the opponent is really softened up with strikes.
the downside: IF the guy sees it in time he can simply scoop the leg away and you're in one shitty position.

If i throw a side kick ( i usually stick to forward stamps and inward or outward lowkicks) i throw it like a muel or horse would throw it, it looks retarded but it gets the job done, oh and i only aim for those soft mushy parts next to the stomach or lower ribs, i dont like to go any higher.

    I met Marvin Perry once.

    San Shou competition.

He looked at me with those ear phones on.

    I scoffed....scoffed I tell you.

I've been undefeated in Kickboxing and San Shou what makes this amateur believe he could beat me?

We met on the Lei Tai....Yes he feared me.

Initial onset I punched he punched, my confidence rose...

Then I initiated. Hoisted him up in the air and dropped him on his back....

Now he knew fear. He got back up.

    We traded...

He feared my take down and he kept away long enough...

    Then it happened....

    He kicked me....

    OUCH...That fucking hurt.........

    He Wins........

Marvin went on to send his next 3 guys to the hospital. I didn't go to the hospital. **** him. At that time I told my wife this would be my last fight so we could raise a daughter. 4 years later I decided one more then I was done.
