    Hell yeah! Hell no!

    I can has MRSA

These pictures are blurry but moderately gross, you've been warned.

So a week and a half ago, I had a little bump appear on my neck. It looked sorta like this :

    Spoiler:

That's no big deal, it's probably just a bug bite or ingrown hair or ... wtf is that on my arm?!

    Spoiler:

    Spoiler:

WHAT'S ON MY THROAT OH JESUS IT'S OOZING

    Spoiler:

I'll spare you the most recent pictures, they blistered around the outside and spewed goo.

In the past week and a half, I have had lesions the size of a fucking silver dollar on my throat and arm and another one appearing on the back of my neck. I'm on my 4th and 5th anti-biotics and an anti-fungal now, because the first 3 they gave me didn't have any effect. I went to an infectious disease Dr. and he doesn't know what the **** it is till he gets the results from the blood test, biopsy and scrapings back. That **** hurt like a ************, because they had to cut chunks out of a fucking sore on my neck. My next appointment is in a week.

MRSA is a possibility, hopefully the new **** they gave me will kill it, or I might have to go on the **** that costs $100 a fucking day. Share in my misery, because all I can think about is when the **** can I get back to jiu-jitsu. **** I've gotta go do some cardio.

That looks awful. How many other guys at your gym got it as well? We had a staph outbreak a few months back and that **** spreads like the clap through an army barracks.

    Wow..

I hope you get better.. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus is some nasty ****.
do you know exactly where you picked it up?

What kind of antibiotics do they have you on? Vancomycin? any quinolone-class antibiotics?

Follow your course of antibiotics just as the doc says... don't skip a day or quit because most of the symptoms have disappeared.. I have friends who've done that and their infection mutated and got resistant to the first antibiotic cuz they quit too early.

Get better man... and try and ask your doctor for some stomach medicine because antiobiotcs ain't easy on the gastrointestinal system at all.

oh yeah. This job also calls for:

I have no idea where I picked it up, I haven't heard about anyone else at the gym having problems (not that I've been there while I've got this ****). I did email my coach and let him know.

First doctor had me taking Cephalexin & Sulfamethoxazole/tmp and putting an Altabax ointment on it. Didn't seem to have much effect. The specialist had me stop that and take Clindamycin hcl and Levaquin, and to put Lamasil on it for a week just in case it's fungal (which he doesn't think it is).

If you do weights at all, be careful if you're on a levaquin cycle. It has some fairly well acknowledged side effects on tendons and joints. If you don't do weights you're probably ok but I had a bunch of problems with it at the start of last year when I had to take a cycle (or more to the point, recovering from the impact of taking it).

Jesus Fucking Christ. That **** looks weird. Have any of those lesions created a cavity that had to be drained? As long as the oozing boils are superficial and not deep, you'll be "fine" (as in not fucked up.)

Climdamycin is what my doc put me when I got staph (after having it drained). The infection was nuked with it in a couple of days, but I had to go several times to have the wound drained, cleaned and gauzed.

Have you observed other symptoms - nausea, dizziness, weakness? Forget about jogging, doing cardio or jits. You are going to be out for a while, you need to recover, and most important of all, you need to get that bacteria/fungus killed out of your system.

    BTW, don't take anti-inflamatories.

Has the doctor suggested a surgical bath using hibiclens? If the doc doesn't think its MRSA, maybe it's not. I doesn't look like it. Looks like a fucking extraterrestrial ringworm hybrid. And the fact that you don't know where you got it from is kinda worrying?

Have you been at a community center, a school (other than your jits school), recreation center, pool, played with dogs or something? Could be CA-MRSA, could be Streptococcus.

You may have been carrying it without displaying symptoms for weeks, maybe years (another reason why a surgical bath may be a good idea unless the doc suggests otherwise.)

Do any of those rashes developed into an abscess as in the pic below:

    Spoiler:

I think you should put the pics of your worst lessions (in spoilers of course). This will give others an idea of what you have, or better yet, give them an idea of what they get if they are unfortunate enough.

The street argument is retarded. BJJ is so much overkill for the street that its ridiculous. Unless you're the idiot that picks a fight with the high school wrestling team, barring knife or gun play, the opponent shouldn't make it past double leg + ground and pound - Osiris

this is the kind of thing that really makes me want to quit grappling all together. i've already battled ringworm for almost 8 months and i don't know if mrsa is worth the risk.

Sorry dude. I'm not looking at the pics - the descriptions are enough.

Make sure you start taking pro-biotics now, in huge quantities. All of those antibiotics are going to nuke your natural healthy bacteria as well, setting you up for some problems down the road. I had a nasty kidney infection last year that I had to take massive antibiotics for, and I had digestive problems for months afterwards.

Also, yeast is very opportunistic, and can contribute to a slow healing process. Start taking acidophilus capsules, or better yet, find some of this:

My local organic grocery store carries it.

We just have to be on top of it. Most of us get one of those bugs because we didn't know exactly what to look for. From there, we just have to develop a routine to minimize the risk of new infections:

-- long-sleever rashguards (with or w/o the gi.)

-- apply purell (or a similar sanitizing gel) to the face, throat, neck, hands, behind the knees and other uncovered areas after grappling or working out (gyms are germ baths btw.)

-- after working out and certainly before going to bed, shower with dial or another antibacterial gel. It must be an antibacterial.

-- use a skin moisterizer. Dried, cracked skin == open doors for MRSA.

-- take a surgical shower/scrub with hibiclens or similar product once a week or biweekly. You can carry MRSA or the ringworm fungus on your skin for weeks without having any symptoms.

-- always grapple with clean gi/clothes, always.

-- don't prode or pop pimples or rashes (I know this for experience - that's how I fucked myself up.)

-- don't abuse NSAIDs. They may delay the inflamatory response to an infection (which can delay the response from your immune system.)
