    Help

Time to find a new gym.

Yes, I know BJJ MMA blah blah blah.

I already have a few gyms picked out.

Now I must stay true to my TMA (yes I know) roots and check out a few schools.

All I know of the first guy is whatever Google told me. Name doesn't ring a bell, so I can't tell ya how he runs his school or if it'll be up your alley. I'll ask around, in the meantime perhaps if you PM Bishop he may know more. I'll keep ya posted.

Oh yeah, almost forgot, go do BJJ, MMA, blah blah blah! :)

Don't let MMA/BJJ nutriders stop you from checking out your options. By all means, check out the TMA instructors you listed, but use this opportunity to look at other places. Judo and Muay Thai already meet the criteria to be a TMA (A martial art that has existed for more than a hundred years, correct?). Hell, BJJ will meet the same criteria in just over a decade.

If it's a cultural thing, I understand. Still, crosstraining is often a good thing.

Yes, I actually have a Judo place close by that I will be checking out.

The kung fu out here sucks (non-sparring wushu garbage) so, I have to do something else.

We can make you a video course.
What TMA would you like to learn?

You can be a bb in a year, and an
    assistant instructor in 18 months!

But, to be an instructor you need to
teach as an assistant for five years,
and then, you can be a Sr. Assistant!
After a few more years, an evaluation
can promote you to full instructor. And,
another 20 years to Chief Instructor!
    woo hoo!
ALL through our CUSTOM video series!

All I found out was Mike Whittle used to train in Texas under Dan Baker and Don Nahoolewa before he moved off to Arizona. He teaches traditional Kajukenbo (forms, tricks, counters, grab arts etc...) but I couldn't tell you what the environment's like without visiting. Best I can offer, is what I say to everyone....check out the place, try out a class, see if it's for you.

    Dear Sir,

I would like to file a complaint against the Fu Ling Dong Cultural Association. After paying for your custom course I received the videos in beta max format. Obviously unable to view beta I returned the tapes, paid the shipping and handling and again paid the S/H on the new tapes. Why they came again as VHS in lieu of DVD is beyond me.

So, once I began to play the tapes I quickly realized there would be problems with both the techniques presented and the editing and sound. The clips were not sequential often times with the techniques being out of order with moments of no sound. Additionally, the instructor continually ogled the female uke and even fondled her buttocks at 4:31 minutes into the tape. This actually happened a few times and although she is an attractive girl I don’t think this sort of thing should be on a video of martial arts instruction. Although I will admit during the rape prevention scene I appreciate the zoom shot of her in which she was not wearing undergarments. (BTW - This was made frightfully obvious by the very apparent bulge in the instructor’s gi… or lack thereof as my wife noticed and subsequently commented).

Anyway, I decided to try my new techniques against opponents in a sparring situation. To say I was humbled and embarrassed by not only the appearance of the techniques but their lack of effectiveness in front of my peers is an understatement. Standing reverse crane style with cat paw defense and sticky toe deflection got me continually kicked in the jimmy. Normally I can accept this as part of my continued MA experience but the groin discomfort coupled with the inability to make use of the gratuitous zoom shots of the uke as mentioned earlier made the situation worse. Thinking I lacked the experience in the techniques I continued on. Let me just state for the record that sequence three entitled “Dirty Monkey Tail Offense & Thrust Sequence 3-7” is just plain BS. My sparring partners actually banned me from the dojang after applying these techniques and it left a stain on my gi pant. Not to mention this made me feel very uncomfortable and well… kinda gay. I don’t think I’ll try that one again. (Maybe on the wife? Hmmm…)

Last but not least I would like to comment on the “free gi”. More like a Halloween costume of what a gi should be. Very flimsy and see through when wet. In this regard I would advise against section “Manatee Mount” in the pool unless you are in the privacy of your own backyard pool. This was again embarrassing because of the children present in the park and the fact the water was cold. (EXTREMELY cold.) Also, the gi was two sizes to small and the hemp rope belt although unique and environmentally sensitive is a bit odd. Also, the pant lengths are of different proportion and the stitching came undone on the jacket after just one washing. Can this item be returned?

    Please issue my money back.

    Thanks,
    Red Elvis

PS – Although I appreciate the voice over of my name to make me feel like this tape was actually filmed for me please be advised that my name is not Ned Pelvis. Also, half way through it changes to Phong Win or something? Maybe he has the other half of the tape I was supposed to get as I don’t recall asking for the section on thumb cuff escapes and S&M mental resistance techniques.

    Thanks!
