Big strong agressive pricks > Small skilled older teachers

It's not fair, but it is reality.[/quote]

Not true. Either way, most tiny old men were at one point big aggressive pricks.

No. That would have been stupid and immature on my part, I learned a great deal from him. Only stopped training with him when I moved, not him.
    No,
    in my opinion:
the fact that you thought to yourself, "I could totally kick his ass" was stupid and immature on your part.

Oh, come off it. It's hard wired into the male psyche, the instant you meet another guy two thoughts occur in your brain:

    1. Are his genitalia larger than mine?
    2. Could I kick his ass in a fight?

Number one you can't do anything about, number two on the other hand...

I think you're lying to yourself here. I've never thought this.

Like the style you train, the instructor you train under is your own personal preference. It's awesome to learn from old, hobbled men, but at the same time you'd be missing out on a whole array of things a young, aggressive tough could teach you.

If a young aggressive tough is wasting his limited competition years focused on teaching instead of competing, there is a very good chance that he is neither good nor strong.

I can pull up a list of Championship boxers who would prove you wrong.
I think Gene Lebell would take issue with this statement.
Helio would probably call you an ass.

Do not ask this man anything about baseball because he obviously can't hit it over the fence.

    Fixed.

Perhaps this should be moved to YMAS, since it has nothing to do with investigating BS in the martial arts?

i think you should be more concerned with how the coach's students are doing, rather than if you can kick the coach's ass.

also, there's that minor issue of: do you enjoy working with them, and are they improving your skills.

someone might be able to make you a better fighter but in doing so might make you hate training. that would suck.
