    N00b question

    Hi all,

I am totally new to Escrima, and wanted to ask if you can point me to some
good (free!) videos or online documents that can help me learning the basic moves.
    (That triangular stepping routine, specifically.)

:icon_albi I have just started, but won't be able to go to classes,
since I am preparing for other exams right now.

BTW, big compliment to this martial art! I wasn't that enthusiastic to learn a new fighting system since my early teens!

    Yours,

    Rafael

Forward triangle(incomplete), aka male triangle. Stand with feet relatively neutral , take a step back with your left leg 45 degrees left and back, moving your entire core. As you step back face your hips toward the point you just stepped away from, taking the weight off of the now front leg as you move.

Step back into the apex of the triangle with your right foot first to hit neutrality again, reorient your heps, and step back with your right leg 45 degrees right and back, making sure the hips face the point you are disengaging with, and then step back into the apex.

    Rinse and repeat.

You're going to have a hard time finding free martial arts instruction, my friend. Please stay far, far, away from YouTube. Are you eventually planning on attending a school? Which style? At the absolute least I'd recommend picking up the Dog Brothers' video "Combining Stick & Footwork" as a way to get your feet wet. It's $40. Start a paper route or something...

Failing this I'm going to give you the freest, lamest FMA lesson you're ever going to receive:

Keeping thinking *, the multiplicaton symbol. These are your stick strikes as well as your angles of stepping and attack. Draw it on the ground in the dirt and practice stepping while striking. Hit trees. Hit tires. Hit heavy bags. Put your body into it as you would a punch or kick.

Now please disregard all this as I'm by no means a qualified FMA instructor. Just some food for thought.

oh, yeah just to clarify, do you have any actual instruction? I had just assumed you were doing a style without much emphasis on footwork

:-) Wow, many, many thanks! This instructions should be enough for me to work it out
for myself. Will try these days and then report any further questions!

I think real live instruction is the only way to insure that.
