I found jack dempseys book talking about the drop step is pretty useful. It's a 'stiff jab'.
I found it helped increase power.
Though it seems a bit slower then a 'regular jab' if that makes any sense.

another question, would it increase the power in my jab if i step out with my feet pointing out in 3 oclock rather then 12?
anyway i believe i'm getting gd power into my jab. was probably using pure arm muscles in the past. guess i watched too much of hajime no ippo, "flicker jabs" -
