Getting hit in the eyes

Sometimes when I get hit in the face, it feels like my eyes get scrathced. This is awful, since it results in me closing my eyes and a subsequent beating. What am I likely to be doing that results in this? How do I stop getting hit in the eyes?

I'm betting your letting your left guard down and getting popped in the left eye with rights. Keeping your guard up on the side you get hit the most is easier if you learn to throw punches with that hand. Combinations rule.

That happened to me last week too. I just try to keep my hands up to lower the chances of that, but in the end, I suppose getting hit in the head sometimes is inevitable. Maybe you should try to hit the fist with your forehead? I just try to get in and out of the pocket for a while, and only engage in full out combat after I've fully felt my opponent out.

Sometimes we just get unlucky, though. =(

It's not a problem with leaving my guard down. I mean, my guard does come down sometimes, but that's irrelevant. I get hit in the face about as often as everyone else, but, sometimes I feel like I catch one right in the eyes. And I can't see for a couple seconds because I have to close them.

Maybe I'm looking too high or too low? Or something?

Looking? Your eye is going to be in the same place no matter where you're "looking." I would suggest that you make sure that you keep your chin down more (obviously so you don't get tagged on the chin, but also to present the brow ridge a bit more so there is a greater chance of getting hit there instead of the eyeball).

But sometimes people get punched in the eye and it sucks.

Correctamundo. Chin down, shoulders hunched, hands up. Also, I doubt you are getting hit in both eyes. I'm guessing you just don't like getting hit in the face, and are overreacting.

I don't mind getting hit in the face more than anybody else. I get hit in the face all the time. When I get hit in the face I can fire back.
When this eye thing happens, I can't because my eyes are closed.
