I had a physical on Saturday and I haven't gotten my blood tests back yet. What gives?

I see your point, I believe that all doctors should be straight forward.

At the same time? Like, one per nut or something?

Yes, I know I'm being a total necromancer but after a year of trying to eat healthier and include a lot more cardiovascular exercise I went and got my lipid profile done again and figured I would share the results. This time I had it done at a Longs drugstore which only required a finger prick and 10 minutes for the results, which was nice.

    First off, last years results:

    DATE: 01/07/08
    AGE: 26
    HEIGHT: 5'6
    WEIGHT: 195 Ibs

    BLOOD PRESSURE: 124/82
    RHR: 54 bpm

    Total Blood Cholesterol: 163 mg/dL (200 mg/dL optimal)
LDL Cholesterol (bad): 110 mg/dL (less then 100 mg/dL optimal)
HDL Cholesterol (good): 38 mg/dL (above 40 mg/dL is optimal)
    TC/HDL Ratio: 4.3 (Bellow 4.5 optimal)
    Triglycerides: 73 mg/dL (bellow 150 mg/dL is optimal)

    Today's results:

    DATE: 02/13/09
    AGE: 27
    HEIGHT: 5'6
    WEIGHT: 193 Ibs

    BLOOD PRESSURE: 112/67
    RHR: 60 bpm

    Total Blood Cholesterol: 137 mg/dL (200 mg/dL optimal)
LDL Cholesterol (bad): 95 mg/dL (less then 100 mg/dL optimal)
HDL Cholesterol (good): 30 mg/dL (above 40 mg/dL is optimal)
    TC/HDL Ratio: 4.6 (Bellow 4.5 optimal)
    Triglycerides: 60 mg/dL (bellow 150 mg/dL is optimal)

So even with the inclusion of fish oil, more cardio, and veggies my HCL actually got lower. Genetic limitations I suppose. I'm glad that everything else improved, especially the blood pressure, but I really don't know what else to do with the HDL except perhaps an entire overhaul of my eating plan and taking medication.

I have a similar thing going on. I was able to get my bad cholesterol in line, but in doing so my good cholesterol still was too low. It dropped some as a matter of fact, and I have been taking fish oil for a while now....
