Remember the UFC was on the verge of getting banned in the US in the ealy days. Alot of rule changes were made to prevent this. These rule changes also let the UFC go under state fighting(boxing) commissions that allowed it to grow in popularity.

Yeah, it's been said, but rules were added so that they could get the sport sanctioned. Getting it sanctioned kept it legal and got it back on PPV. ...And eventually, mainstream TV.

I think without the Rules the UFC would not have manged to acheive the success it has - people dont wanna watch someone get their head stomped, its not pleasant.

Its the same with Pride who banned elbows- they banned elbows not because theyre too dangerous but because they often cause cuts and therefore alot of blood.

Dont forget these shows televised all over the world.
