Man dies after urinating near cables

Beijing - A man died from burns and other injuries after he was electrocuted while urinating from a bridge onto a high-voltage railway power line in southern China, state media said on Monday. Eyewitnesses said they saw the man standing on a large pipe at the side of the bridge in the city of Guangzhou on Sunday morning, the official Xinhua news agency and other media reported.

A worker at a nearby hair salon said she heard a bang and saw the man, said to be aged around 30, sucked onto and stuck to the uninsulated power line. His clothes caught fire and he eventually dropped 10 metres from the cable onto the railway track, the agency quoted the worker as saying.

Medical workers pronounced him dead at the scene of the accident, it said. Safety netting, which should have prevented people from climbing onto the pipe next to the bridge, was missing, the reports said. - Sapa-DPA
