Weird PT Question: Rowing a Great Distance

The father of a friend in Athens has built a reproduction of the Argo (as per Jason and the Argonauts) that will be rowed by a Pan-European crew from Volos (Greek coast) to Colchis (in modern day Georgia) this spring. I will be one of the fifty crew members, representing Ireland.

Any of you lads have ideas about how to prepare for 30-40 full days of rowing with fifteen minute breaks at two-hour intervals? Also, what kind of bodyweight pushing exercises and stretches should I plan to do in order to avoid catastrophic shoulder damage?

I will, obviously, seek the help of local rowers, including one of my BJJ coaches who rowed for Brazil. The one problem with using their methods is that none of them trained for this kind of long distance endurance rowing. Anyway, I thought I'd toss this out here and see if anyone had anything to offer.

    Thanks in advance.

What I would do is just slack off and let the rest of the team do my load.

In my experience the local fleece is of a darker color.

Nice! Hopefully they keep it sheared down there.
