    MMA/Kickboxing with glasses

As some of you may have seen in my newbie thread, I am getting ready to begin my trip into MMA, starting with Muay Thai. My question is how will having glasses affect my performance? I know I can't wear them while fighting or training, but will my bad vision affect my fighting? Thanks.

I can't wear contacts because of pretty severe allergies.

Wouldn't they cause trouble anyway? I'd think they would get knocked off the eye easily.

I can't wear contacts either. The question would be just how bad is your vision? My truly sucks and sparring without them is an iffy proposition. I've done it but I don't like it. It's hard to see the subtle telegraphed signs that can help give you an edge. If your's isn't too bad, it would be worth trying and seeing (no pun intended) what you think.

My vision isn't horrible, but anything past 2-3 feet starts getting blurry. At about 6 feet or so I lose the ability to see any real detail.

Get Rec Specs. Regular glasses are not a good idea.

I'm the same way. I usually wear contacts, but I fight without anything to aid my eyesight. You don't need to see detail to see a fist coming at your face.

    True enough.

Thanks for the help guys, I just have one more question.

If I plan to train and spar without glasses, should I do my simple bag work without them too just to get used to it?

If it makes you feel better... it honestly doesn't make that much of a difference since the bag isn't hitting back.

Though I generally work on the bag without glasses anyway.

I'm 20/400 and hate contacts...so I just don't wear anything. I'd recommend training the same way...to get used to it. Besides, how hard can you kick the bag without jarring them off your face??? take them off, and you'll do better anyway...you can't have all that **** on your face...and really get into it. Unless their RecSpecs, in the style of Eric Dickerson...but damn, they look funny, and I doubt you want them on your face.
