No, I was only a very intermediate white belt, and gi/no gi doesnt matter to me. Just good BJJ training does.

Dude, go to the school, ask if you can observe the class, and go from there. If they don't let you observe the class, then I shall advise you to go somewhere else. Ask them questions, and hope that they will be up front with you. It's ok to play Dick Tracy when it comes to someone potentially parting your money from you.

Got an email back from the regional director. He told me, only recently was he assigned to be director for the midwest. He said he asked Matt Thorton about the instructor and Matt said that he is "good and worth checking out".

So if he is vouched for by Matt Thorton, thats all the info I need.
