Academic interest is good enough for me, but if you're looking for a technical reason, judo doesn't cover defenses against boxing punches or throws you can pull off while wearing boxing gloves. The old-time boxing champions knew their standing grappling and throws just as well as their punches and they still have something to offer.

Academic interest is cool, but you know, I can't help but wonder if you could, and I know this is a crazy idea, I mean, no one really does it right now, but you could almost COMBINE Judo and Boxing into a sort of "mix" of "martial arts" and train them both at the same time. Insane, I know.

Just to be clear boxing gloves were not used until the introduction of the Marquees of Queensbury Rules, which also banned grappling. So no they didn't know how to throw with gloves on.

Judo and Boxing are in impressive mix. I would guess better than anything you had in the London Prize ring or classical boxing. One becuase it was not until the later rule sets that bobbing and weaving and other defensive rules came into play. The old bare knuckle was more GNP. In the same way their grappling game wasn't greatly developed. So if you are an MA historian(which I understand) it might be a good read if the history is tight, but if it is just an attempted sale of a system, then no.
