WEC 31: Faber vs. Curran. 12/12/2007

Although Big Frog is a great fighter...I'm rooting for my national hero. I believe that i will be one of the few at my school rooting for Urijah. Curran is a Pedro Sauer black belt and Prof. Sauer teaches at my school...so the lines will be drawn pretty clearly in the sand. We'll be watching the fights at the school so it looks like i will be missing at least one class tonight.

Bear in mind that I've only seen two of Faber's fights, and those in person and drunk because my friends had already fought. Thus my comments are really only about the training Faber has been exposed to. I've no idea who will win but it is incorrect to think Faber is a slouch when it comes to subs, particularly defending them.

Faber has not been subbed in a fight yet. Bibiano had his back and appeared to be all over him but failed to sub him, ended up getting put on his back and cut with elbows. He's been training with Glover and Werneck for several years. Curran is good but Glover and Werneck are better on the ground, so I don't see Curran being able to capitalize there. Bibiano is also better on the ground and failed to finish despite massively dominant position.

So is Filho in the WEC solely because White wants a striker as champion at middleweight in the UFC? I think Filho is probably the best in the world at 185.

yeah, i'm not real sure about that one. With the UFC having some issues at MW I wasn't sure why they signed Filho to the WEC other than to back up their claim that the WEC is not a UFC minor league.

I think that was the main reason. Filho adds some real legitimacy. It would be nice to see a Silva-Filho superfight.

Filho and Anderson are training partners and don't want to fight each other.

Man, either Cub's jits was way overrated, or Pulver's been training his like crazy. Either way, it was fuckin' awesome. I was expecting Pulver to decapitate Cub with the left hook, but a fucking Darce out of goddamn nowhere is just as good.

Bonus points for pissing off the Vegas crowd so much to make them chant '**** you' at him.
