Struggling learning standup - too "stiff" / "tense"
So, I've been training for about 5 months now and my ground game is progressing well but I really struggle with my stand up. Every class I get some itteration of this comment...
"Looking good man but you are too stiff ... you need to loosen up"
"You need to relax"
"You're too tense"
"You are throwing individual punches and kicks but nothing is fluid"
So, I'm conscious that I have this issue and I try to be more relaxed and what not but evidently I still look like Muay Thai Robocop. I knew coming into training my standup was awful and would take alot of work. Maybe I am trying so hard just to keep the basic motions right that I am over exerting? I dunno ... hopefully when I have good muscle memory down the line I'm better
Anyone have any recommendations, advice or drills I could possibly do to help with this?
You're only problem is having 5 months experience. Be aware of your tightness but don't fixate on it. Let yourself learn. I'd say it takes about a year of solid training to even have a clue what is going on.
