Jian - Where to learn it?Is there a chinese sword fighting art like kendo/kenjutsu?

I know nothing about non-firearm weapons training, but I recently had a look at an old duan jian at the Metropolitan Museum:

... that's a formidable looking piece of metal, right there, and not far off from military swords used by the Greeks and Romans. It dates from circa 4th–1st century B.C., more details here.

I joined the WJL because they have the least restrictions when it comes to live dueling.

Do 1 or 2 duels, it will clarify the difference between pretty and functional.

The next competition will be in San Diego.

As you mentioned their were ceremonial straitswords, thats what I call a scholar sword. I have never been to the cold steel web site. My Master said that metal was expensive and so even short, the swords were used with two hands.

Perhaps you misunderstood me but saying, "BS" and then claiming I got my info from a web site and saying that archaeology was a better source of information than someone's Shifu is arrogant and rude.

No point trying to acuratly replicate a jian from the 1800's when most Chinese were 4'9" and 60kg in 2009 America unless you are a dwarf.

I got my custon Jian from a well know establishment in china.......big mistake that is still to be resolved.
