The most direct route is to eat less. If you need precisely 2000 calories per day to maintain, it's a helluva easier to eat fewer calories per day, as opposed to hopping on a treadmill and assuming that stupid little calorie counter is an accurate representation is what's actually going on inside of you.
What's more, the more you do anything but sit around at rest, the more you DEemphasize fat mobilization; caveats notwithstanding.

Yeap pretty much.
1. Do cardio. It's the best way to burn calories.
2. Reduce calorie consumption so the daily intake compared to necessary maintenance is negative.
3. Why not not those muscles a bit more?
Stay away from colas and fried foods.
Get more protein and less carbs and fat.
Eat more often to stimulate your body to burn more fat.
Look at 6 smaller meals per day if possible.
One big meal makes your body retain fat and lowers your metabolism.
****, I should write an article...

Get some of those cool US fatburner supplements that are illegal here in Oz 'cause possible side effects include death. :p
But seriously, if you've got everything else down like Piz says, some of them can be of use.

Ephedra, caffiene......to raise heart rate.
Do your own research, I'm not interested in these products right now....

Too much damned effort; whilst I'm happy to train untill I drop from exhaustion, I can not resist the occasional drinking binge topped off with fried chicken/keebab/McDonald/[insert unhealthy thing] :)

Have to add - I'm still in good shape though, but can't quite get a low enough body fat to really let the full six pack show through.
Neutral, or nearly so

Amen brother, a little stored up for winter isn't a bad thing. I get to drink and eat without busting out the scale.

Man, LOSING fat is a wierd idea to me. I'm one of those people who eats a couple scoops of icecream literally almost every day and doesn't have any fat to show for it. Apparently I have eight percent body fat. But it's also very hard for me to gain muscle mass (though I have been gaining strength lately).
