It depends on what you mean by "rifle." During the Napoleonic wars, for example, the use of longbows as opposed to muskets (which to a layman, is just another "rifle,") would have resulted in greater range and accuracy for Napoleon's forces. Why didn't he use them? Easy - the sound of firearms going off made the enemy grab their dicks and **** their pants.
