I'm teaching MMA out of Martial Arts PLanet now since I closed down Gladiator's. Your assessment of MArtial Arts Axis is completely wrong; Daryl Urbanski is a fraud and a scam artist with an ego that would shame Napolean. Just listen to the bullshit he spews all over youtube about how amazing he is and you'll get the picture. He is definitely NOT the go to guy for BJJ in Kingston Ontario.
Any drama you find at Martial Arts Planet is remnants of the old owners pet students who are too full of themselves and stupid to realize the change in ownership to Chris Wellstood is a major step up for them. Chris has a good reputation with Leo Santos, Wendell Alexander, Wagney Fabiano, etc. His credentials are real and he's brought the level of the skill level at MAP way up by bringing in the right people to teach classes. I've seen quite a few clubs change hands and it's always the same thing regarding politics with the old guard students whining and complaining about the club changing hands. In my opinion, Chris is doing a good job of balancing between the average Joe who just wants to train for fun and the more competitive people who take it seriously.
If you're going to right reviews of schools; at least have an understanding of what the hell your talking about. This site needs to be taken with a grain of salt after reading some of the reviews of the local scene. -

If the understanding is anything like your butchering of the English language it is all good.

The other thread where it is shown he has a blue belt and brings in legit coaches for seminars?

Seems to be a lot of talk about me going on around here. Perhaps I should share a little of myself.
So I'm Daryl, the one who apparently is a fraud and a scam.
First of all, to anyone I may have upset or made angry, I apologize. As we all know you can't make everyone your friend and just like in Martial Arts, we make a lot of mistakes trying to get things right.
As for my credentials.
Well to start I have almost 5 years boxing/kickboxing experience. Started here in Kingston at the Cooke's Arena Boxing Club.. Was there about a year and a half. I moved around a lot but did most of the rest of my training at the 'Hard Knocks Gym' in Penticton, BC. Not sure the timeline but more then 2 years or so. Then I trained at Leftys Kickboxing Gym in Shinjuku about a 7min walk from the station while I lived in Tokyo Japan. Trained there for about 2 years.. I lived in Tokyo for just shy of 3 years and worked as a consultant (mix between Business, Teaching English (it's Japan), Team Building and International Relations) at Shinsei Bank, Gaba, Tokyo Electron, Johnson & Johnson and Kyoei Securities.
I trained basically every night but Sunday between Lefty's and Axis Jiu Jitsu Headquarters - Rickson Gracie's school in Japan. I also went and trained for a whole month in Thailand at Sorvorapin. There are 2 locations. 1 downtown Bangkok off Kowsan Road.. The other on the outskirts of the city. That's where I went..
It was pretty awesome. Deep in a swampy marsh, surrounded by locals and natural Thailand Jungle. Each trainer was a world champion and the ratio was 1:1 sometimes even 2:1! The schedule was wake up at 6:30am.. Go for a 5 or 10km jog (depended on your trainer), then bag work, cardio, pad work and sparring for 3 hours.. Breakfast at 10am… The day was yours and you'd come back to do the exact same thing again at 3:30pm.
I've since had an off road mountain biking accident and am physically unable to kick because of the scar tissue.. Was bed ridden and unable to walk for 6 weeks, on crutches and limping for 4-6 more after that. That's the biggest reason why I haven't gotten into MMA. That and seeing a lot of my training partners get seriously injured fighting amateur in Japan. Bit of a 'dog fighting' kind of scene there.. They just don't care about the fighters unless they're making them money.
That was my experience anyways.
Since leaving Japan and settling back in Canada I made it a mission of mine to associate with only the highest caliber mentors. Who are my mentors? Where would I ever learn a so-called 'blueprint'? (a.k.a curriculum.. Dumb haters)
Hmm..
Rickson Gracie (I swear I trained with him, but was dumb enough to not bring a camera)

Team Lloyd Irvin - now I haven't trained with Lloyd personally, but I have trained and gone to tournaments with some of his SERIOUS competitors and understand their mindset. There is a very logical and matter of fact reason why they win all the time.. You'll figure it out if you spend enough time with them.

Greg Nelson (Coach of Sean Shirk, Brock Lesner - watch my interview with him here ->
But then again I'm supposed to be a fraud and a scam artist who knows NOTHING about this whole BJJ/MMA thing, correct?
Haters just want to hate.
Rob is upset with me I think mostly over a blog post I did waay back in January 2011. It was 'risky' but I wrote it pissed off at having 5 to 7 karate and traditional martial arts guys come through my door the same month - all saying they knew bjj and mma but then making really bad mistakes or not having a clue what to do from bottom mount..
I explain it in my blog post here:
http://www.martialartsaxis.com/pain-in-my/
7 months after I wrote it I got a very pissed off email from Rob who for some reason thought it was about him (it wasn't). I fixed it now and apologized to Rob over Facebook. He never replied and apparently instead decided to trash my good name all over the internet.
----------------
The problem is after getting my Blue Belt from Rickson Gracie Lineage, I won't accept my next belt from 'just anyone' and if I'm 6 months late on getting my purple, I don't think thats a big deal considering you have your purple for 4 years or more.
Notice the caliber of these mentors I've mentioned? I want to be a REAL Jiu Jitsu Black Belt. I want THEM to tell me I'm ready and unfortunately they don't live right next door. I don't really care what the local scene says:
http://www.martialartsaxis.com/do-yo...-martial-arts/
I've busted my ass and volunteered at countless tournaments so I could connect my guys who want to be refs, find fights for guys who want to fight, get to know the local networks and contacts. I fought in 11 ontario/quebec competitions since opening my school (2 Gold, 7 Silvers and 2 Bronze.. haven't competed in 2011 yet - Nov 2nd 2011 was Martial Arts aXis's 2nd Birthday btw).

http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._8089039_n.jpg
I've traveled across Canada, Japan, Thailand, Africa the USA and paid good money to get proper training for myself and to develop my guys..
Here is a blogsite I made while living in Japan.. Never thought anyone would see it but me (for some reason I thought it was private) - but apparently with all this talk about me going on its been getting a lot of traffic - THATS the guy I am:
http://darylurbanski.blogspot.com/
Haters go ahead and hate but stop trying to make me out into some bad guy when I'm not.
Here's a secret about a REAL martial arts school… It's more about your students then you. That's how I get testimonials like this:
Get Results Like This:
Ontario Provincials 2011
Martial Arts aXis Home Grown:
Thomas Godin - Gold (Gi) Silver (NoGi)
Brendan Ho - Bronze (Gi)
Our other competitor this year Jay Bender - placed 5th out of a division of 28 guys.
Or why I write about the 3% Mindset:
http://www.martialartsaxis.com/3-vs-97/
Or why I offer people a 30 Day Free Trial to come checkout the school and make sure we're legit:
http://www.martialartsaxis.com/
Or why I have a youtube channel answering some of the most commonly asked questions I haven't seen anyone else answer:
http://www.youtube.com/user/MartialArtsaXis
I bust my ass for my school AND my guys so I'm not ashamed to demand respect or brag about my school.
Have questions? Email me - skillsforsuccess@martialartsaxis.com
But please stop slandering my name. I'm a good man doing the best I can and everyday I try to make up for my shortcomings and do better.
Everyday I try to be a better man, a better coach and a better fighter. It's in my blood. It's who I am.

Hey Andrew,
Right now we share space much as a massage therapist and chiropractor would. However we operate as separate and independent clubs, with the exception of when we have cool fighters like UFC Champ Carlos Newton or Sam Stout coming in. Whoever organizes it usually lets the other club's students in on it (for obvious reasons).
How it works is we segment the days between the two clubs. Our days are Monday, Wednesday, Friday & Saturday but we also recently opened up some fighter conditioning classes Tuesday & Thursday which run after the FSD guys finish their training.
We have plans for (by this time next year) our own Fighter House and to move to a new location, our own location.
Right now its a really good setup. Between the two of us we have a full octagon and all the equipment you could want or need. I do wish we had better lighting and windows but its still a pretty sweet setup with a lot of space.
Is that a good answer Andrew? Let me know if you still have any other questions.
I would like to say that I know very little of the previous bad rep the FSD have had, or even how Gerry (the old owner of the Kingston FSD) ran his school.
My entire experience has been with his son Danny, who took over almost the same time we decided to share a location. I know very little of those schools outside Kingston. However Danny has been kickboxing and coaching it since he was.. 6? 7? 8 years old?
His striking skills are waay better then my own and he is hungry to make a name for himself and earn the respect we all want and deserve. Shame he has to inherit other people's mistakes.
But I am in no way affiliated or part of the FSD network beyond sharing a facility and I have very independent and ambitious goals of my own.
First, the goal is to fill all classes to capacity so we can find enough guys who want to be career competitors (with potential) to merit running a fighter house and dedicated training/classes.
Second, move to a different facility because we do have some training secrets for our competition team and sharing space kind of restricts when we can train and what can be done. Plus we'd need full facility access and full time training for our fighters in the fighter house.
I also would really love to start some Parkour classes in Kingston (I have good relationships with the PK Kingston Crew) but where we are now, the ceiling is to low for high jumping or wall runs, etc..
I believe the gymnastic and explosive traits of Parkour would be great cross training for any fighting athletes. Plus its fun and I like the concept of it as a martial art. Who said self defense was always about fighting? Even as an instructor if 12 guys surrounded me in an alley I'd much prefer to climb the wall to the fire escape and piss on their heads from the roof top.
I'm not a coward and would fight them 1:1 2:1 or even 3:1.. But if you've ever been in a real fight with groups or gangs, survival is what really counts. But that would be more of a hobby project or club addon.
BJJ/GJJ is my real hearts passion.
