Thanks, guys, these comments have helped a lot. I asked my coach Mike Massie about it and he said there are "wind" chokes (arm, fist, whatever, across front of throat) and "blood" chokes (that shut off one or both carotids). I have been choked both ways, but the "wind" choke (gagging, plus I could HEAR stuff crunching in my throat, great sound effects :) was so painful I figured it would tend to cause "too much" damage (uh, permanent or something) -- but now...... just gotta find someplace to try/use it -- and NOT on my coach -- payback would be a serious bitch.

I saw a boxing match, I think it was Ken Norton against Duane Bobbick, where Norton punched Bobbick in the throat. Bobbick dropped his hands and just stood there gagging while Norton teed off on his head. The ref stopped the fight and called it a TKO.

It stung a bit, but didn't really faze me otherwise." If one wants to have a friend one must also want to wage war for him: and to wage war one must be capable of being an enemy." - Fr. Nietzsche 'On The Friend' Thus Spake Zarathustra
