I had problems with my contacts falling out too, so I just stopped wearing them for sparring. I have pretty terrible vision, so it was hard to get used to at first, but now I don't feel like I'm really at a disadvantage anymore. You only need to be able to keep track of movement anyway, so it's not a huge deal if you can't make out all the details.

FYI 20/90 and 20/100 is barely blurred vision compared to what a lot of us geeks deal with. lol

    Random Anecdote #1:
I had a contact lens fly out in a muay thai fight and land on a judges score card. I'm guessing it didn't earn me any points.

    Random Anecdote #2:
My contacts fall on the mat all the time. I swish them around in my mouth and pop them back in. I have never had an eye nfection.

Regardless of what some pages on the internet say it's hard to argue with results. I fully appreciate your notion to question my statement, but why would I make something like this up? I certainly don't stand to profit from it.

Another thing you have to consider is that it makes perfect sense for optometrists to blast on this kind of thing, because there's a lot of money to be made in having lifetime clients paying for contacts and glasses.
Conveniently enough I had my yearly eye exam today so I asked my doctor about that. He said while it is true that eye exercises can help certain conditions, saying that it's a cure-all or even has the ability to correct a large percentage of folks vision problems is false advertising.

Or maybe I'm just bitter because my vision is something like 20/800.

Like I said man, I can only truly vouch for my own experience. I can't make, nor do I desire to make claims of what I used as a cure-all, it simply worked for me.

One thing I don't understand completely though is why it seems like people with vision issues would rather attack this kind of method without giving it a try and then forming an opinion.

Because my experience has always been that if it seems too good to be true, it is.

A medical doctor who specializes in eyes is called an opthamologist. An optician is an eye specialist that did not go to medical school.

    Try different types of contacts.

My first set were monthly disposables and they kept popping out. So then I tried biweekly disposables and they were fine. (I don't do MMA, this was just day to day stuff)

Contacts have certain curvatures to them so you need to experiment to see which one has the right curve for your eye.

After a few years, I ended up getting laser eye surgery, prk not lasik.

In a nutshell with lasik, they slice the top portion of your cornea, perform the surgery (reshape cornea with laser) and then put the flap back on.

With prk, they scrape the top and perform the surgery, no flap.

When I went in for my assesment, I was told that if you do a contact sport, you should go with prk. If you go with lasik, there's a chance that your opponent may hit you in the eye and the flap may come off making you blind. The flap doesn't really heal 100% because you can't glue it or put stitches in. This is what the doctors told me about 18 months ago so I choose prk.

Finish this sentence for me: The plural of anecdote is not....

I'm not sure if you're simply relating your experience or recommending the same, but putting contact lenses into your mouth and then putting them back in your eye is not high up there on the "Good Ideas" list.

Oh, and I asked an optometrist about eye exercises. From what I can recall of what he said, if and only if your vision problems are related to weaken eye muscles (from nerve damage or some such), it will help. Chances are way, way higher that the eye exercises won't work because typical vision problems are caused by defects in the shape of the eyeball, not the strength of the eye muscle, and the exercises will do nothing or even worse, will strain your eyes unduly.
