Is Kali Bullshido?
I just recently started looking into the Filipino Martial Art of Kali and I was just wondering what your guys's opinions were on whether Kali is bullshido or not. I have been training in BJJ and Judo for about a year and a half and compete in Judo regularly so I have a pretty good idea of what bullshido looks like but I was sure what the deal was with Kali.
I am planning on traveling to the Philippines in about 6 months and I was thinking about training in a Filipino Martial Art. I am part Filipino on my mom's side so learning a Filipino martial art would be part for novelty and trying to get closer to my mother's culture and part so I can added something to my skill set.
I hope this isn't a question that gets asked every five seconds but I could find another thread about it.
Thanks a lot!
like much else it depends on the quality of instruction. it is a good way to learn practical weapons usage and defense.
How about if I grab a stick and attempt to beat the crap out of you and you can determine for yourself?

The area of the PI you'll be in will narrow down your choices a bit. Pekiti Tirsia Kali and Kalis Ilustrisimo are both very well regarded and solid styles.
If you're interested in the cultural aspects, I recommend reading Filipino Martial Culture by Mark V. Wiley.
If you're going to be around Cebu city lookup Doce Pares too.
You Filipinos and your temper!!! Sheesh!!!!

You can't practice Judo just to win a Judo Match! You practice so that no matter what happens, you can win using Judo!
The key to fighting two men at once is to be much tougher than both of them.
What region of the PI are you visiting?
