    Hong Kong Movies with BJJ!

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=woVGlRy_UeM

Watch the above clip, though it's nothing earth shattering, it's interesting that Donnie Yen is putting in arm bars and leg locks and all sorts of MMA moves. I didn't know if this would go into this forum or not. Anyway, his last flick "Killzone" had alot of submissions in it as well. Oh, and plenty of 360 degree kicks.....

I thought that the german suplex and the kata guruma into the rail were particularly neat looking.

Really it was more judo than BJJ, I didn't see him pull guard even once.

Armbars and leglocks have been around long before BJJ. Having said that, I also really like Throwdown. Some good Judo in there. I do know of one Hong Kong BJJ school. One of my students trains there when he is back visiting his family.

I remember an interview with Donnie when they were filming SPL (Killzone) that he wanted to stick some more MMA styled fighting in his films as it was getting popular, happy to see it looks like he's stuck with it for this new film. It made for something interesting and different in SPL when he takes on Sammo.

I like the fireman's carry to the drop on a metal pole.

Finally got around to watching this movie, Flashpoint.

Actually, Donnie Yen DOES pull guard in the movie. In addition to the suplex, armbars, hip throws, and fireman's carry, there were triangles, RNC from backmount, a brief scarfhold, a sidemount, some very nice open guard work against strikes, double leg takedowns, mount with the ground and pound, sprawling, and a very nice knee bar to a fucking heel hook!!

And after the movie during the credits, they show some of the training that was done for the movie - from the looks of it, kinda looks like an MMA gym, they had a ring where they were practicing throws and grappling, bagwork, and thai pad work.

Not a bad blend of MMA and hong kong movie kung fu.
