    Kosen Judo dojo in US?

Does anyone know of any Kosen Judo dojos in the US? The only ones I have found are in Japan only. If anyone has a list of Kosen Judo dojos or knows of any from knowledge or website, please let me know. Kosen Judo is Judo with more newaza for completeness. IMO, with all those throws and grapples in Kosen, you might could dominate a BJJ practitioner, hence my interest (and it augments my Enshin repertoire perfectly). Thanks to all!

BJJ might make you a better ground fighter, but Judo will make you a better dancer.

You won't find it outside of Japan. What exactly is the problem with taking BJJ to improve your newaza?

There is plenty of Kosen Judo outside of Japan. It happens to go by a different name, though.

Try guessing what that name is.

Hint: You actually already mentioned the alternate name Kosen Judo goes by outside of Japan in your post.

The reason I don't take BJJ instead is because Enshin is a combination of Kyokushin strikes and Judo throws. The reason I want to take Kosen Judo is so I can be taking Judo and BJJ simultaneously. Otherwise, that is 3 MA disciplines I have to learn to have a complete fighting ability (striking, throwing, grappling). I have other things to do in my time and two MA's simultaneously is enough to stay very very busy with. Maybe I should find a Judo instructor that knows BJJ as well so he can teach me BJJ newaza simultaneously with Judo.

Or you can find a BJJ instructor who knows Judo. The Enshin instructor you're going to train with is also a Judo Blackbelt, so the throws you're going to learn are going to be solid judo throws.

If you want to learn good groundfighting go to a BJJ school it's that easy. Also are you even taking classes yet or even been to a class? The fact that you don't know this about Andrew Budd is kind of telling.

Edit: I wonder why I thought his name was John Arnold,

The Enshin instructor I planned to train under is the only one in the Austin area that teaches Enshin and yes he is a 3rd degree black belt in Judo. The whole point of wanting to take Kosen Judo is to learn BJJ and Judo simultaneously instead of having to take them seperately and it taking that much longer to to have effective newaza with my Judo.

Yes, I did know Andrew Budd is 3rd dan in Judo, I stated that in another thread, you are making assumptions about me. No, I am not taking classes currently, which is why I am trying to organize this now, so I can save years learning all the techniques I feel I need to know.

IMO, Judo needs to take a hard look at the dominating success of BJJ in MMA competitions and venerate less the traditions of the Kodokan and innovate more by incoporating these newaza strategies into Judo. I think most anyone that really is serious about having a ground game will agree.

There's nothing about Kosen that makes it superior to BJJ in terms of integration with Judo.

The problem isn't with judo...my school does alot of newaza. And on wednesday night, you show up and do newaza open rounds until you can't take it anymore. So, it is not judo, it is the school. We have young and old blackbelts and they all do newaza. Judo clubs from all around come to our newaza nights.

I didn't compare Kosen to BJJ, I simply stated Judo needs to add more newaza to compete with BJJ on the ground.

Yes, you may study newaza, but if a BJJ black belt showed up, would you get owned because you practice the same old limited newaza and his newaza is far more diverse? I think so.

The street argument is retarded. BJJ is so much overkill for the street that its ridiculous. Unless you're the idiot that picks a fight with the high school wrestling team, barring knife or gun play, the opponent shouldn't make it past double leg + ground and pound - Osiris
