One of my old TKD instructors drinks in my bar. I had a chat with him recently about my Judo and wanting to enter for a full contact kickboxing match. We ended up discussing it and he said:

"So what happens if someone lands a spinning heel to their opponents temple and they die?"

I just told him that doesnt actually happen.

I saw someone have their heart stopped in the ring by a spinning back kick last year. Hit in the chest. they revived him with CPR but there for a second it looked like dude was actually going to die.

Yeah, a few years ago there was a Cornell lacrosse player who got hit in the chest during a game and just fell down and died. Paramedics/AED's for the win.

EDIT:
This stuff is the only thing in the world that can be remotely considered a "death touch". But the parameters for it working are so limited - after all, you don't see people keeling over from behing punched in the chest all the time - that probably one guy just got lucky and his legend grew.

Here in Brazil a 16-years old kid actually died from a roundkick to the head during a kickboxing (or Muay Thai) championship. The problem is that, according to the rules, he SHOULD have been wearing protective headgear, but the judge let him and his opponent go at it without helmets.

Pretty sad story.

If a person is kicked at exactly the right time between beats, the heart can stop. Very rare.
