    1st muay thai fight

I don't know too much about MT. Gerri was upset with her performance - it was her first fight and she won - to me she did all she needed. But some input on what didn't go well would help me understand.

Probably she's frustrated due to her low workrate with the legs, and the sheer number of hits she took -- though neither fighter had a lot of defense or body movement. Also, her punches could have snapped more. Last, how much bigger was she than her opponent? It sort of limits the feeling of success when it's someone considerably smaller...

More boxing is needed, especially more combinations.

i would say she needs to relax, but hey...first time...I can dig that.

She's only been training in MT for 8 weeks, So I thought she was being a little hard on herself.

Yeh, i'd concur. 8 weeks aint enough time to really learn ****.

personally I'd keep her out of the ring for 6 more months and send her back in.

She's fighting again on the 30th:icon_conf . That was originally supposed to be her first fight, but she took this fight on a few days notice.

Yeah, she'll need alot more training. She needs to keep her hands up to guard as she attacks. As well as pick her shots. Half the time she threw a punch and hoped it would hit her opponent. So, more hand workouts as well as drills to make her more comfortable with using her elbows.

Also, when compared to her opponet, her kicks weren't nearly as strong nor commited. As of right now, I'd say more training on boxing techniques as well as some drills on her kicks so that she may commit more and use more power in her attacks.

    QFT

The two biggest things I could see were:

    1) Needs much more boxing training. She has the really bad habit of dropping the other hand when she throws a punch. That leaves her chin hanging in the breeze, which is just asking to get KTFO. I would say she needs a lot more time hitting focus mitts with proper technique, until it becomes natural to keep her hands up. Then she needs to spar to learn to apply timing etc.

I know people on here are very big on sparring, and obviously you need to to be able to fight, but you really do need a base of proper technique first I think.

    2) Similar to above - more time on the Thai pads and heavy bag. She needs to learn to put some power and speed into those kicks.

Then, again, more sparring. Especially to learn to catch some of those rib kicks. The amount she copped there looked painful!

Personally I wouldn't even bother trying to teach elbows until she gets the basic jab-cross-kick sorted. But then I haven't trained anywhere where people fight after 8 weeks, so I can't really comment.

That said, I have respect for anyone who gets in the ring and goes for it.

There's seven days till her next fight. She's working hard and hopefully progressing, but it seems to me a very short time between fights.

Yeah she certainly seems to have guts.

If you don't mind me asking, what's your involvement - just a friend? And is there any particular reason they're getting her to fight so soon?

I could see someone her own size, or a much better puncher, doing some damage if she doesn't get a little better at protecting her face.
