    Hell yeah! Hell no!
I'm partial to the hood as well.

This must be him when invisible or something:

This is him unmasked. Yeah, I'd keep the hood on too.

I think it's better to teach them kata.

I wondered why no-one was saying this.

The humble armbar doesn't go from "ooh, that almost hurts" to "OH MY FUCKING GOD I'M CRIPPLED FOR LIFE" in a tiny and instantaneous motion. The arm pops. Anecdotally, I've heard that three pops is the point where the elbow is truly fucked. In practice, I've only ever popped it (and had my arm popped) to the one-pop mark.

    When this happens it:
    a) hurts like a bitch
    b) hurts like a bitch for the next few days
    c) heals enough to handle normal life relatively painlessly in a week or so
    d) heals more or less fully in a couple of weeks (I still get a pain in my arm if I wake up after sleeping with it in a too-bent position and this is a couple of months later, but it's otherwise fully functional and pain-free).

My BJJ instructor popped people's arms to this mark in a streetfight, and it had the desired effect of causing them to not want to fight any more. If their adrenaline had been up further, maybe he'd have had to do more. I suspect however that there are many cases where this level of pain would be sufficient to make them rethink their course of action, and leave them with something to ponder for a little while afterwards.

The reason is (there is another thread with seriousmantid) most people asking these questions don't grapple or are new.
