Well then its a choice between doing a bunch of exercises that really give you hard training for those aspects, or do one that sort of covers them all.

What about the fact that you will never stand in a full front stance with your hands chambered and down blocking or whatever? LIke I said before, even if it works all those aspects to the max, since you won't use whatever you're honing, it's wasting your time.

Kata is not in the same category as conditioning. That's not the purpose of it - it's a prearranged set of fighting techniques. To give it the same purpose as other facets of training like conditioning seems like making excuses to keep it around, especially since whatever you get out of Kata can be trained better with other methods.

You keep looking at Kata as an exact interpratation of pure figthing technique, while it contains some elements of that it's also doing other stuff.

Kata is not a preplacement for sparring, weight lifting, running or pad work, it's it's own seperate thing.
You fight the way you train. Forms don't help your fighting technique if you aren't going to use the techniques in them. And I never said you can't get things like breathing or focus training from forms - I said that you can train those things more efficiently and with more functionality through other training methods.

I am also reluctant to address the street vs ring arguement but Kata also addresses things like reversing a front kick to a back kick or elbowing behind you while you strike forward to deal with anynone coming up from behind.

The infamous chambered fist is also a backward elbow strike to the gut of someone coming at you from behind while you're punching forward with the other hand.
If you want to train a backward elbow strike, then do it on a bag. Or if you're really devoid of training partners and equipment, do it in the air. But don't resort to standing in a stance you won't use or holding a guard you won't use, that just doesn't make sense.

If you want to train things like focus and breathing or whatever by training yourself to use things you won't fight with, then go for it. Just realize that there's better ways, and that you train the way you fight, and you want to minimize this dead training as much as possible.

To me, forms would be acceptable if it was ONE form and if it actually contained moves and footwork and whatever that you would actually use. And it would be best if it was not prearranged. Oh what's this, we already have it, it's called shadowboxing...

In it's current state in most Korean MA, it's an artistic tip of the hat to the past.

Back up, pardner. I've seen the "Mountain Block" and the "double high knifehand block" and "punch-and-let-the-arm-just-hang-out-there" used plenty in t34 oct4gon!

There may be a lot of gay kata out there, but dead training has its place. It is, among other things, the backbone of good stickfighting.
