The man has his priorities and he feels that they are worth more than UFC money.

While that stinks for the fans who wanted Randy vs Fedor, it's his decision and it's nice seeing the man follow through on his word.

If Dana White didn't get so butt hurt about UFC fighters competing elsewhere it wouldn't be an issue in the first place

I say it was Vince McMahon.

Well that would be the obvious issue, but Dana "doesn't do exclusive contracts."

This won't be the last time it bites him in the ass.

I guess this makes Fedor the new Rickson in terms of "Could have been". Only two free agents HW's with any value worth singing for him to fight are Josh Barnett and (ugh) Brock Lesnar.

Maybe Fedor doesn't really care much whether he fight in UFC or PRIDE and is more content in competing at low-key SAMBO events and train on his own terms, away from the fanfarre and publicity? I'm just talking out of my ass, but when I see this, it reminds me of Karelin - he could have gone MMA, but he never really cared for the sport and all the hooplah.

He did his deeds in the olympics, and was quite content to retire in seclusion. Who knows, maybe Fedor thinks like that as well (again, purely out-of-my-ass conjecture.)

The street argument is retarded. BJJ is so much overkill for the street that its ridiculous. Unless you're the idiot that picks a fight with the high school wrestling team, barring knife or gun play, the opponent shouldn't make it past double leg + ground and pound - Osiris

Maybe SamboSteve could comment on how big SAMBO competitions are in Russia? That should definitely help shed some light.

This is certainly possible, I do know that fedor admires Karelin (though honestly what combat athlete who knows who karelin is doesn't admire him). and it did seem that setting up a successful mma organisation in russia and being an ambassador for sambo were important to fedor, and he couldn't have done that in the UFC

No US presence although the new buyer seems dead-set on changing that.

I believe the BoDog fights in Russia were all co-events with M-1. Also Vadim Finkelstein from Red Devil was a huge part of it.
