    This is a stinger I have only heard of ice for the first 48 hours after you get it and then heat afterwards. But I am just a guy on a message board. Talk to a physician or sports medicine professional. Nerve damage is nothing to mess with.

    ever been thrown, land wrong, and get a pain in the neck? it could be a "stinger". I probably get 2-3 of these a year...

    A stinger is not 'pain in the neck'. It doesn't even have to necessarily come from the neck at all. It's a sharp pain radiating down the arm. Can come from impingement of the nerve root itself, traction on the brachial plexus, instability of the shoulder joint.

    Heat or ice is the least of your problems. Do what Naszir said and get some professional advice, particularly if it's lasting more than a few minutes.

    FWIW, it cleared up, doc said it was probably not a stinger, just a muscle strain...
