Was that Ref Masato's coach? lol

He yelled at Buakaw for holding every time Masato grabbed him! WTF?

WOW! Then they gave credit to Souwer for that leg kick? That was clearly accumulated damage from Buakaw. I wish I spoke japanese so I could understand the announcers.

Assume they were creaming themselves when Masato was beating Buakaw, and being thankful the judges didn't have to add a bullshit extra round.

Souwer had great defense. I would have picked every one of those fights wrong!

Best tournament of the year. Final 16 was amazing too (almost all fights were 1st round KOs). UFC can't touch K-1 right now, IMO...

Man, what happened to the front kicks? Buakaw's complete ass-kicking of Masato in 2005 was wholly dictated by the front kicks that landed over an d over, kept Masato at range and let Buakaw pick him apart, and in this match I don't think he threw a single one. Whenever he kept it at kicking range he was smashing Masato; it was only when he got drawn into boxing exchanges he was getting hit and hurt. I love Buakaw, but he didn't have to lose this fight.

He got cocky and wanted to fight Masato's game.

He was screwed by that ref. Buakaw clearly uses his lead hand for spacing yet every time he put a hand out the ref yelled at him for holding even when Masato was holding HIM!

I think Buakaw's focus on trying to box was a result of trends he was trying to learn from and capitalize on from the past couple of years of K-1 max tourneys. In 2005 he was outboxed and defeated by Souwer, so he focused more on boxing and defeated Souwer in the 2006 final using his hands more than he had in the past.

Seems like he carried that heavy reliance on his hands into this year's match against Masato - because hey it worked last time, but Masato was able to up his boxing level more. I'd be excited to see Buakaw rebalance his game next time around.
