WTF and ITF, even though matches are scored per hit, aren't stop-and-start and as such really shouldn't be classified as point sparring any more than wrestling should. Yes, you can and will get rocked in high-level WTF sparring, even with all that padding. Actually, the hogu makes body shots hurt more IMO.

We always considered ITF sparring to be "Continuous Point Sparring"... ATA was "Stop Point Sparring". If you don't consider ITF sparring to be point sparring I've done a lot more non-point than point....

My newphew actually won a match in an ata event by ducking into his opponent's fist. His dad was like "way to use your head son""a martial art that has no rules is nothing but violence" - Kenji Tomiki

Even though his dad was probably screwing with him, there's a whole bunch of schools that teach their students how to draw fouls. I think I mentioned in an earlier post about schools that teach their students to stand completely sideways towards their opponent so that they minimize exposing "legal targets". Unfortunately that means they are giving you their back, but in their game that doesnt' matter.

I've done the "duck into the guys fist" thing a couple of times in ATA tournaments.... Ugh, makes me feel dirty remembering it.
