You are kidding right. NO 8 year old should be a black belt I don't care how skilled they supposedly are. They are nowhere near being mentally ready to be a black belt.

Black belt means something different in every style. If black belt in one style = blue belt in another style, having the kid get the black belt isn't a big deal. Not all styles consider the black belt to be the end goal, some consider it to be the starting point where you've learned the basics and start really working. If that's what it is, doesn't matter what age the person is as long as they have the skills.
