    Nakamura Tests Positive for Marijuana

    Nakamura Tests Positive for Marijuana

Light heavyweight Kazuhiro Nakamura (Pictures) has been suspended three months and fined $500 after testing positive for marijuana, the California State Athletic Commission announced Wednesday.

Making his UFC debut Sept. 22 in Anaheim, Calif., against Brazil's Ryoto Machida (Pictures), Nakamura was dominated in a three-round unanimous decision loss.

Prior to Saturday's fight, Nakamura (11-7) had participated solely in PRIDE events. He fought on U.S. soil once before, stopping Travis Galbraith in Las Vegas in October of last year.

The 28-year-old Japanese judoka, who represents the Yoshida Dojo, is the lone participant on the UFC 76 card to test positive for drugs of abuse. All anabolic agent and masking agents tests administered by the CSAC are still pending.

This will not change until pot is legal, unfortunately. I guess in US it's only a matter of time, really.

The only reason at all they even make an effort to suspend and fine Nakamura is because pot is illegal, and MMA is still a hot topic in terms of legitimacy. It's understandable, and given the circumstances of things maybe even legitimate in order to advance the agenda. But the fact of the matter is suspending someone for marijuana use is like suspending someone for alcohol use. It's hardly a performance enhancing drug.

To be fair, getting caught using pot has caused suspensions in a lot of sports. A Norwegian 100m runner is facing a penalty for testing positive, even though he says it was passive. Guess you have to choose your company more carefully if you're an athlete.

Well, maybe in an eating competition it is. Or super munchies causes guys to finish fights fast so they can go eat chocolate..
